Close your mouth: How to nasal breathe

Every myofunctional therapist has four key goals when treating a patient. The first, and arguably the most crucial, is promoting nasal breathing. Why is nasal breathing important, and why is it worth the time to address?

  • Nasal breathing warms, humidifies and purifies air as it enters the lungs.

Nose breathing removes dust mites from the body in 15 minutes

Mouth breathing removes them in 60-120 days

  • Children that primarily breathe through their nose achieve better facial development as well as great brain development.

  • Nasal breathing regulates oxygen and carbon dioxide absorption in the body.

  • You get 18% more oxygen to the brain with nasal breathing and receive regenerative sleep if achieved at night.

Signs of Mouth Breathing

  • Signs of excessive saliva, drooling

  • open mouth posture

  • Waking up with a dry throat or mouth

  • Dry, cracked lips, addiction to chap stick

  • Snoring

  • Chewing with your mouth open
